I believe that PR and keyword targeted inbound links are still very important for competitive keywords. If you go after long tail, you can get away with much more on page SEO.

Great post! I think that many webmasters, Web users etc. have a distorted idea of what the Google Toolbar PR means. It's very important to know that it is only updated every once in a while and doesn't not provide the truest, most up-to-date info about a blog or site. Great also that you listed where webmasters & bloggers can check out their real PR. I advise that webmasters in pursuit of higher rankings use that tool often, for their competition and themselves, to keep a close and constant watch on their ranking. This is vital for those looking to catch issues as soon as the search engines do.

I have heard that PR altogether isn't as important as it used to be. I believe I read in a WebProNews article that Google in starting to place more importance on other aspects of a site and its rank. What has anyone else heard about this, and should webmasters out there still be focusing on raising their PR?

Hi Dauclair,
I love reading your blog posts! I am not a professional as you Dauclair and my blog is just my 'dirty blogger playground' to learn some Internet tips and tricks. I also don't know to write well as you and many other bloggers out there.
I started my blogging about my MacBook dream in February 2008 and I was totally shocked when I have noticed that google gave me PR4 and even PR5 on 2 pages. I started with PR0 and jumped to PR4,5 in a very short time. If I am honest, I don't really understand how it has happened, even though I was spending very long hours online every day and I've got help from some people who know much more than me.
(Spam comments just started to flow, immediately after getting new goolge page rank.)

There are so many more Internet marketing and SEO techniques which I haven't used, yet simply because of my lack of fluent writing, graphic design, photogrphy and video editing such as:
1. video: creating, posting to video web 2.0 sites, promoting
2. photos: own photo shoots, photoshop graphic manipulation, promotion
3. articles: creation, posting, promotion
4. forming own social group and helping each other with social bookmarking, link building, conternt creation
5. reviews
6. using Seo Elite, even though I've got it
7. constant presence in many high PR forums
more...
