Rank Checker: Automate Your Search Rank Reports

Aaron Wall of SEOBook has released a new SEO tool called Rank Checker. This tool allows you to easily track your rankings and rank changes on Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Live Search (MSN).

This free tool is packaged as a Firefox extension, making it quite reliable. You can manually check rankings for a list of keywords, and can even setup scheduled tasks to automatically fetch rankings at specified times and intervals.

This tool saves me a lot of time since I used to do this task manually. Digital Point provides a similar tool accessed through a web interface. However, it does not provide data from Google unless you own a now discontinued Google SOAP API Key.

Comment your experiences with Rank Checker or search rank reporting here.

You mean ‘Ronk Checker’ right? ;-)
I like the plug-in a lot. I did edit the source code though so that i’m not limitted to only 20 keywords at a time.

If any of Daryl’s readers want the modified file and instructions on how & where to put it then hit me up at info at 10minutes dot org

I did notice that it limited me, so I created multiple lists. One for my ‘hot’ keywords and additional lists for keywords I am just watching. Also, it does not allow you to select multiple times during the day to execute the scheduled tasks.

I am interested in learning how to edit the source of a Firefox extension. I’ll be emailing you John, thanks for your share!

Getting to the files is pretty simple. You’ll find them in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\John Jones\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\52eqfxgl.default\extensions\rankchecker@seobook.com

Keep in mind that ‘John Jones’ is the name of my user profile on my computer. This will be different for you.

The .jar file contains all of the files you’ll want access to. You may have another way of getting to those files but changing the .jar file to .zip and then unzipping the zip file will get you to those files.

Use your favorite editor to modify the .js files to your liking and package it all back up into the .jar file and walla.

One last thought that I would have added to my last comment if I had thought about it before I hit submit.

If Daryl is ok with this go ahead and comment here about the changes you’ve made. Open source is after all a way to have a community improve on software so I’d be interested in seeing what changes everyone else makes to this tool.
